Christ is our physician

This week my studies focused a lot on who Christ was and what did He. A lot of my study was in the sections of the 4 Gospels that recorded the miracles that He performed. Reading these accounts, I decided to put myself in the shoes of the people watching Christ perform these miracles. I worked to visualize every detail of the stories and what it felt like to watch all of this.
One of the stories that was most impactful to me was the story where Christ sat with and dined with the sinners and Publicans. In the scriptures, as Christ sat and ate with them, we see the scribes and Pharisees murmuring and wondering why Christ was sitting with these people. In their eyes, these people were sinners and shouldn't be in the presence of Christ. In response to this, Christ says "They that are whole need not a physician; but they that are sick." Christ reminded the scribes and Pharisees that the people who need Him the most aren't the people who are doing well or already righteous, rather it's the people who are afflicted and need His help.
Sometimes I feel like when people think about religion or faith they immediately think of a perfect Christian family that goes to church every Sunday. They show up wearing their nicest clothes and sit right up at the front of the chapel. Now, of course, there's nothing wrong with this at all. But it's important to remember that that vision of the "Perfect Christian Family" isn't the standard or the minimum requirement for Christ's love and help. Our Prophet, President Russell M. Nelson stated that "The Lord loves effort". This means that regardless of whether you show up to church once a month or whether you only read the scriptures when you feel like it, as long as you're putting in effort, the Lord will bless you. You don't have to be perfect to receive help and love from Christ. I say these things in the name of Jesus Christ, Amen.
